No Homework Bible Study

Here are some things I know to be true: 

  • Life is busy.

  • It's hard to relate religion/faith to everyday life.

  • There are few minutes in a day when our mind and heart are clear enough to think, let alone remember God's love.

  • One source for (re)discovering His love is by reading and contemplating Scripture.

Many of you already know about my transition from small-group dropout to small-group facilitator to writer. I've been writing “low homework” small group discussion guides for almost 10 years. My format is based on feedback from hundreds of busy women. I could not stop thinking about the resistance to homework and wondered if I could help.

Spirit of Mary NO HOMEWORK EDITION

What if you could discuss Scripture and engage in meaningful conversation without a lot of preparation or pre-education?

The Spirit of Mary: Act-- No Homework Edition

  • A weekly theme relevant to the lives busy women are leading.

  • An emailed essay connected to the theme (with an audio version).

  • 2 Scripture passages to read, paired with thoughtful questions to discuss.

  • 8 weeks (the perfect length to deepen bonds of friendship). 

For Existing Small Groups

Gather with a small group at your church, at home, in a coffee shop, or at a park playground. The Scripture passages can be read aloud and the questions discussed without having to write out your answers in advance. The audio version of the essay will be short enough to listen to as you drive to meet your small group.

Option for Anyone Without a Small Group

If you don't have a small group-- I'm brainstorming ways we could meet online either at a scheduled time via Zoom or in the comment box of this Substack.

Each week, the essay and questions will arrive in your inbox on Mondays. They will also be available here on Substack. You’ll be able to read them in your Substack app or on the web. You can even print them if you like.

The audio version of the essay will be perfect to listen to on the go.
