It's Never a Waste of Time
even though it might feel like it when you can't see immediate results.
That sacrifice you're making…. it's not a waste of time. No matter how many times you’ve convinced yourself that it is.
The times you bite your tongue so that the metallic taste never really fades.
The times you pause to put a cheery tone in your voice after seeing a name flash across your phone.
The times you touch your forehead, heart, and each shoulder to quell the rising anxiety in your mind.
The times you take out the trash, fold the laundry, and put away the dishes without keeping score.
The times you pick up: the prescriptions for the chronically ill, the socks from the floor, the dry cleaning, the dinner, or the car full of kids from soccer without so much as a thank you.
The times you get out of bed to ease a nightmare, feed a hungry baby, or calm an anxious teen while your partner snores soundly, cluelessly unaware that the vacant spot next to him is slowly cooling.
The times you stay at home when it seems the world has passed you by.
The times you mourn the loss of your childhood, your spouse, your career, your friendship and without being able to put your grief into words, you grieve alone.
The times you grasp for gratitude rather than close your fist.
The times when you feel forgotten, overlooked, ignored, and unseen but rather than crying out you look up.
The times when all hope feels lost so your fingers move bead-to-bead in time to the silent movement of your lips.
It's not a waste of time.
Never a waste of time.
Every moment of silent, hidden love is seen. And it is all very beautiful.
A beautiful piece, Katie! Your words are so special and always touching
